When he tried to cross the road to Bethel Square , a delivery van was parked, completely blocking the crossing. David pointed out Mr Kerr's “difficulties” and was told to “**** off. I've got 14 parcels to deliver” However, when he did take notice of Mr Kerr, he did move the vehicle.

Through Bethel Square , Mr Kerr was again using the long cane to follow the wall. We apologise to the lady who was bending over, sorting out her shopping! The shoe display and the T-towel displays were problems but with David's guidance Mr Kerr “found” the wishing well, the seats in the central area and his way to Boots. At the car park entrance it was decided that there was far too much traffic for his safety and we ended his ordeal.

Mr Kerr admitted that previously, he had litte awareness of the difficulties disabled people faced in their everyday lives. He added that he had counted 8 people he knew who would have normally spoken to him but once they realised he was in a wheelchair completely blanked him. He also noticed how people spoke to David but ignored him as if he was not there.

Margaret commented “We have to learn to live with our disabilities but the external problems are usually in the hands of others”.

Everyone at Brecknock Access Group sincerely thanks Mr. Kerr for spending almost 2 hours of his valuable time with us and hopes that he will now be able, not just to help alleviate some of our problems, but make other employees in PCC aware of disability issues.

We would also like to extend our gratitude to Mr Williams for experiencing similar problems but to limit the length of this article will not, at this point, explain his journey through Brecon.
